Investment Banking Application Tools: CV, Cover Letter, HireVue and Superday Prep

Six paid tools on /tools, each bound to an application row: CV and cover letter rewrites, portal answer scoring, 60-second video, telephone screen, and interactive superday.
Guides tell you what a strong CV or HireVue answer looks like. Tools exist for the week you have twelve portals open and cannot afford mismatched motivation. Finbound on /tools is not "AI for everything." It is application-bound practice: pick the row (company · division), run the tool, reopen the result next to that firm.
If you do not have a tracker yet, start with the investment banking application tracker loop (board → study → /tests). Tools sit on paid plans on top of those applications.
The rule that makes every tool useful
Before you open any tool:
- Confirm the application exists (company, division, programme type, stage).
- Know which asset you are improving (CV, letter, portal box, video, phone, or full mock).
- Keep facts consistent with what you will say on camera later.
Skip step 1 and you get generic output. Skip step 3 and you create a CV that contradicts your video story.
| Category (in-app) | Tools | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Applications | CV Optimizer, Cover Letter Optimizer, Application Answer Review | Upload PDF or paste draft |
| Interviews | Video Interview Prep, Telephone Interview Prep, Superday Interview Prep | Timed record or interactive rounds |
Every launcher card shows a Fintelligence badge. You remain the author of what you submit to the bank.
Document tools
CV Optimizer
Path: /tools/cv (opens the hub with CV selected).
- Pick the application row.
- Upload a PDF CV (max 5MB; text PDFs, not scanned images).
- Get an editable rewrite plus Summary, What changed, and guidance: ATS tips, Format and structure, Tips for {company}.
- Copy or download as
.txt(cv-{firm}.txt). Reopen anytime from Tools activity.
Use it when you already have a clean master and need skim-zone changes for this programme. Full workflow: tailor resume for investment banking. Base formatting: finance CV template ATS guide.
Cover Letter Optimizer
Path: /tools/cover-letter.
Same flow as CV: application → PDF upload → editable firm-specific draft with structure and ATS guidance, saved for that row. Motivation should name something real about this bank and division.
Pair with the safety checklist in AI cover letter for investment banking and structure rules in our cover letter banking guide.
Application Answer Review
Path: /tools/application-answer.
- Pick the application.
- Paste the portal question (≥10 characters) and your draft (≥20 characters).
- Optionally set the portal word limit (leave blank if none).
- Get a score out of 100, live word-count status (within / over / under / no limit), summary, suggested improvements, generic language to fix, consistency checks, structure tips, and tips for that company.
You rewrite the final version. The tool does not generate a paste-ready portal answer. Use it for "why this firm" boxes and short competency answers. Deep dive: application answer review for investment banking.
Interview tools
Video Interview Prep
Path: /tools?open=video_interview (no separate /tools/video-interview redirect).
- Pick the application (questions use company, division, programme type, and stage).
- Choose a prompt: bank of five templated questions, pick, random, or custom paste.
- Countdown (3s pick / 5s random), then record up to 60 seconds.
- Fintelligence returns overall score
/100, summary, strengths, improve-next, better structure, model outline, and next practice focus.
Typical session: about 2 to 4 minutes. This is practice under a countdown, not tip rereading. Drill system: HireVue practice for finance interviews. What banks listen for: HireVue finance interview tips.
Telephone Interview Prep
Path: /tools/telephone-interview.
Mic only. A recruiter voice speaks an intro, then three firm-specific questions. You get 60 seconds per answer with a live timer (you can end early). Fintelligence scores each response, then the session: strengths, improve, delivery tips, next focus.
Catalog label: 3-minute audio screen. Plan 5 to 8 minutes including feedback. Use when banks still run recruiter phone screens. Keep the same motivation thread as your cover letter for that row.
Superday Interview Prep
Path: /tools/superday-interview.
Interactive camera session with a named banker persona. Default themes:
- Fit
- Commercial awareness
- Behavioural
- Technical
- Closing motivation
The interviewer follows up and pushes back (follow_up / next_round / end_session). About 60 seconds per answer; up to eight turns including follow-ups. Plan 12 to 20 minutes. Fintelligence scores each turn and the full session (strengths, improve, delivery tips, next focus).
This is final-round stamina, not first-day HireVue practice. Process context: superday interview prep and investment banking interview questions.
Which tool when
| Stage on your tracker | Reach for | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Application | CV Optimizer, Cover Letter Optimizer, Application Answer Review | Superday mock before materials are firm-specific |
| Video Interview | Video Interview Prep | Rewriting the whole CV the night before |
| Telephone Interview | Telephone Interview Prep | Memorising a 60-second video script word for word |
| Super Day / Final Round | Superday Interview Prep | Ignoring CV defence of bullets you "optimised" last week |
Keep study and tests running via the application tracker loop. Tools polish materials and delivery; they do not replace stage-matched technical revision on /study.
Free plan vs paid tools
| Layer | Free | Paid |
|---|---|---|
| Tracker + study | 3 applications, 20 tasks each | Unlimited |
Company tests (/tests) | Listing may load; taking tests is paid | Full access |
| Fintelligence AI | Not included (free Study Insights are rule-based only) | Study + test analysis |
| Application tools | Not included | All six on /tools |
Pricing (USD examples): from $11/month or $70 lifetime, with regional GBP/EUR on checkout. Lifetime includes a 7-day money-back guarantee. Confirm live prices on /checkout.
Honest split vs course libraries: modeling depth still lives in products like BIWS; Finbound tools are for execution across live applications. See Finbound vs Breaking Into Wall Street if you are choosing spend.
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Why it fails | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Running tools without picking an application | Generic output | Always select company · division |
| Letting AI invent metrics | Interview collapse | Only keep numbers you can source |
| Expecting Application Answer Review to ghostwrite | No paste-ready rewrite | Use flags, then rewrite yourself |
| Different motivation across CV, letter, and video | Screeners notice | One thread per application |
| Thirty identical video takes | Scripted delivery | Three strong takes per question type |
| Optimising documents, skipping study | Fail technicals | Keep /study running |
Bottom line
Investment banking application tools work when they sit on the same application rows as your tracker and study plan. Finbound's suite covers CV and cover letter rewrites, portal answer scoring, 60-second video, telephone screens, and interactive superday practice, with Fintelligence feedback saved in Tools activity. Start for free to track applications, then open /tools when you need firm-linked documents and recorded practice.
