Where the recorded video sits versus online assessments
On many Lazard campus paths, the ladder looks roughly like this:

What the video usually scores:
- Clarity under a clock
- Motivation that would fail if you swapped in Goldman unchanged
- Independent advisory truth (advice-led, lean teams, judgement)
- Consistency with your CV and any written motivation
What it is not scoring: a perfect accent, a memorised paragraph, or a full LBO on camera.

Does everyone get a Lazard HireVue?
No. Common patterns:
- Strong written applications on high-volume programmes often lead to assessments, then video
- Some paths use live recruiter screens instead of recorded video
- Timing can look random because review is staggered, especially on rolling UK routes
- Completion windows are often short once the invite lands
Do not email recruiters after two quiet days asking where your HireVue is. Do prepare as if the invite could arrive during a lecture. If you get a live screen instead, the same independent-advisory stories still transfer.
If the main US 2027 window is already at Offers Out, keep practising only if you still have a live invite, an off-cycle path, or you are prepping for the next cycle. Do not pause every other bank while you wait for a Lazard video that may not come.
Why the generalist intake changes your video story
Lazard summers often rotate across industry groups (and, on some paths, restructuring exposure) rather than locking you to one desk on day one. That changes HireVue language.

Better shape for 45 seconds:
- Hook: why advice-led M&A (or restructuring) interests you more than a lending-led platform.
- Evidence: one project, course, or deal note that shows judgement under ambiguity.

Do not invent a deal you cannot explain. One real mandate you have read in public coverage beats three name-drops. Keep numbers light on camera; save modelling depth for live rounds.
