Susquehanna Internship: SIG Trading, Quant & Tech Application Guide

6 min readDaniel Ruiz

Applications

Susquehanna (SIG) interns work across quantitative trading, research, strategy development, and software. This guide covers how to apply, what 10-week programmes look like, and the probability-heavy interviews that filter most applicants.

Susquehanna is a proprietary trading firm. That single fact kills more applications than any "hard interview" rumour. Candidates reuse Goldman motivation, skip probability practice, or treat SIG as a generic "quant finance" brand. Recruiters notice.

What a Susquehanna internship actually is

SIG describes intern and co-op programmes as a mix of real desk or team work, education, and mentorship. Former trading interns describe rotations across desks, options education, mock trading, and collaborative culture (games, chess, and decision games show up in culture stories for a reason).

Hubs: many quantitative research opportunities are listed for Philadelphia and New York. Other offices (for example Sydney trading expressions of interest) appear by cycle. Always filter the live board.

Compare the business model to banks in our hedge fund vs investment banking career guide before you write "why SIG."

How to apply (and not get filtered in week one)

  1. Open the Interns + Co-ops hub and browse open roles.
  2. Pick one primary path. Add a second only if the posting explicitly shares a pool or you can defend a different narrative.
  3. Filter by office, degree level (bachelor's vs master's), and graduation window.
  4. Upload a CV that shows outcomes: contest math, coding projects with metrics, research write-ups, or games/competitions with clear decision skills.
  5. Save the job ID. Start probability and coding drills before you submit.

Timing and process shape

SIG recruiting is listing-driven, not one global Friday deadline. Some strategy-developer cycles state recruiting begins in a specific month (for example August for a later summer class). Treat each requisition as rolling once interview capacity fills.

Interviews: what actually gets tested

Expect logical reasoning, probability, and (for quant/tech) Python fluency. C++ or another low-level language is a plus on research and strategy-developer paths. Strategic games and competitive activities are repeatedly mentioned in SIG's own candidate language because they proxy decision quality under uncertainty.

Trading and quant prep that works:

  1. Daily probability and mental arithmetic (expected value, Bayes intuition, conditional probability).
  2. Practice thinking aloud for five to ten minutes per problem.
  3. One markets or research talk you can give in ninety seconds, including what would change your mind.
  4. For strategy development / software: a project walkthrough with correctness, latency, and failure modes.

Investment banking valuation drills help for Evercore. They are not a substitute here.

Applying to Susquehanna alongside bank HireVue seasons this cycle? Finbound is a free application tracker and study platform for finance recruiting. Add your path (trading, quant/research, strategy, or software) as its own application, update the stage as assessments and interviews arrive, and an advanced priority algorithm ranks the highest-impact study tasks so Susquehanna trading at interview is not ordered the same as a bank still at HireVue.

Start for free. Free plan covers 3 applications, 20 study tasks each, and 3 tool uses included. No card required.
