A Truist video assessment is not one interview. It is a chance to sound like the division you actually applied to, whether that is Truist Securities, corporate banking, credit delivery, or wealth.
Truist is a regional bank with several very different businesses, and its video round is built around that. Late summer and autumn are when next-summer listings post, with interviews running into winter. On a video path, the assessment usually sits after you submit and before anyone speaks to you live.
This guide is for students holding or expecting a Truist HireVue, or deciding whether to apply at all. It covers where video sits in Early Careers, how the questions differ by division, and how to sound like a Truist candidate rather than a generic applicant.
Where the Truist video assessment sits in Early Careers
Truist keeps student hiring under Early Careers on careers.truist.com, and investment banking paths sit under Truist Securities. Many listings use a video assessment as an early screen. Others move straight to a recruiter call. The invite tells you which one applies to your requisition.
A common video path looks like this:
- Online application
- Video assessment
- Recruiter or banker interview
- Final round or superday
Listings are division and city specific and reviewed on a rolling basis. Because review is rolling, the video window can be short once your CV clears. Rehearse in the week you submit so you are not learning on camera under a deadline.
Recruiters read applications as they arrive, so an early clean submit often means an earlier invite. Late does not always mean rejected, but it usually means fewer interview slots. Track each Truist listing as its own application, because a credit delivery video and a Truist Securities video are not the same process.
The video usually scores three things:
- Can you speak in complete thoughts without reading notes?
- Do you understand Truist as more than a large bank?
- Can you name one division and defend it with proof from your CV?
It is not scoring a full valuation. Save modelling depth for the live rounds.
Why Truist rewards one division, not a generic bank story
Several business lines sit under one brand, and they do not hire on the same evidence. Truist Securities investment banking, corporate and investment banking, credit delivery, and commercial banking and wealth each expect a different reason. This is the whole point of the video round.
A candidate who says they want to work in finance at a great bank is interchangeable. A candidate who says they want to underwrite middle-market credit, and points to an accounting project as proof, is not.
Pick the one listing your CV can defend and let every answer point back to it. If your answers would still work with another bank's name swapped in, they are not ready.
How the questions change for Truist Securities investment banking
For Truist Securities, treat the video like a motivation and judgement screen for a coverage and capital markets house. Expect why Truist Securities, why this group, and a light technical or deal-sense prompt.
Your answer should mention clients and coverage, show analytical proof, and explain why this product or sector. Name one industry you could discuss at coverage depth. A Southeast or middle-market client base you actually researched beats prestige adjectives.
Do not bluff a full model. Structure a short view: what you would look at first, what you would ask next, and a tentative conclusion. Our investment banking interview questions guide covers the technical range if that is your target.
Tell me about yourself should be a 60-to-90 second CV walk that lands on Truist Securities. Why this group should name the coverage model and one client type you find interesting. A teamwork or values prompt wants one story with a decision and a result, not a list of adjectives.
Corporate banking, credit delivery and wealth sound different
Each business line wants different proof, so keep the division obvious in every answer.
| Business line | What the video should sound like | Proof to bring |
|---|---|---|
| Truist Securities IB | Clients, coverage, analytical judgement | One industry or deal you can discuss |
| Corporate and investment banking | Client needs, credit judgement, product sense | A client-facing or analysis example |
| Credit delivery | Cash flow, risk and mitigants, portfolio monitoring | An accounting or credit project |
| Commercial banking and wealth | Client outcomes and trust | A relationship or service story |
Corporate banking is relationship and credit judgement. Talk about what a client needs and how a bank earns a relationship over time. Credit delivery wants cash flow, risk, and mitigants, plus an interest in portfolio monitoring after a deal closes, not only the pitch.
Commercial banking and wealth lean toward client outcomes. A wealth answer that only talks about M&A is a miss. Name the client problem you want to solve and one thing in your background that fits it.
If you applied to more than one Truist listing, write separate motivation lines. Do not reuse one paragraph on a Securities video and a credit delivery video.
Reading the invite before you record
Not every Truist path uses video. Some go straight to a recruiter call. Read your invitation carefully, because it names the platform, the number of questions, and the time you get to prepare and answer. Do not assume every Truist process includes a recorded stage.
Truist hosts the assessment on its own careers site, and review depends on the division. Truist's own candidate guidance is simple: be authentic and give thorough answers. That matches what reviewers want, which is a real person describing a real plan.
If other regional banks are on your list, keep their videos separate. Our Wells Fargo HireVue guide shows how a similar bank splits its business lines, and the Bank of America HireVue guide covers a larger footprint.

A 48-hour Truist video plan
If the invite is already open, spend two days on spoken answers.
Day one. Write three division-specific lines: why Truist, why this business line by name and city, and one story with a decision and a result. Record each once. Cut anything that sounds like a cover letter.
Day two. Add a second behavioural story and a light commercial answer. Do one full run in the clothes and lighting you will use for real. Watch it once, fix the two worst habits, and record one more full run. Stop after three.
Keep notes off camera. A glance down reads as reading. If you blank, pause, restart the sentence, and finish. For camera basics that apply to every firm, use our HireVue finance interview tips.
